Planetary Activity

Here’s the band that ushered in the kitsch revival of the 80s, The B-52s. Even their namesake being taken from a particular style of beehive hairdo (seen above on Mmes Pierson and Wilson). Never before had ‘tacky’ been elevated to a badge of honor.
While no prom, wedding or bar mitzvah would be complete without Rock Lobster, I’ve always been a bigger fan of the Peter Gunn and Theremin inflected paranoia of Planet Claire. We’ve got two good electronica versions today; a rather bumpin electro cut by Super Astronaut and a jazzy downtempo/lounge rendition via Les Deux Love Orchestra.
