With 27 wives,  it’s hard to tell if Fela Kuti was either the happiest man in the world, or at the very least, the most nagged. But in all seriousness he was more than just a Nigerian version of Big Love; he was a tireless activist for both political and human rights as well as being the pioneer of afrobeat.
Today we got two different versions of Fela’s Upside Down (though written by Fela’s sole co-vocalist Sandra Izsadore) by one-off NYC studio band the Daktaris, some of whome would later go on to form Antibalas.
